What electronic visit verification (EVV) means for families
How EVV records each home-care visit, why it matters, and what it doesn’t replace.
Electronic visit verification, or EVV, is a simple idea: the caregiver checks in electronically when a home-care visit starts and checks out when it ends. The result is a record of each visit that doesn’t depend on memory or paper timesheets.
Why it matters to families
- Peace of mind that a visit happened, especially when you can’t be there.
- A clear record of when care started and finished.
- Fewer disagreements about hours, because the times are recorded at the visit.
- A late or missed visit is easier to spot and follow up.
What EVV doesn’t do
EVV records that a visit took place and when. It isn’t a camera and it doesn’t replace a conversation. You still want a provider who checks in with you, listens to feedback and adjusts the care plan as needs change.
Questions to ask
- Do you use electronic visit verification for every home-care visit?
- Who reviews the visit records, and what happens if a visit is missed?
- Who do we call if we have a question about a visit?
